TRAINS AND TREES
Life is about finding ways to live together. This design had to combine the needs of a model train enthusiast (whose priority was to have an unimpeded train track weaving through the garden) with a garden lover's aesthetic preference for a green formal garden.
Constrained by train track positions, a garden boundary that angled towards the house at one end, and minimal depth to the garden, symmetry and structure was achieved by focusing the eye on a feature granite bench (to match the granite paving and pool surrounds) backed by a row of Ornamental Pears. Clipped Box hedging around the lawn finished the space in a formal manner. Train tracks run behind the bench and clipped Box providing a solution that appeals to both partners.
